Monthly PI/CPC Events

May Events

Mays’s events are now posted for booking.  This is a fairly calm month compared to some others, which is just as well because the big push is on for our Professional Luncheon upcoming on June 20th at the Chateau Louis.

If you know of a professional in your daily life you think would be interested in attending, we are asking that you invite them to attend.  The lunch is free for the professionals, but for A.A. members attending, it is $25, just so people are clear about that.

Our committee has developed a few ways to contact them.

  1. You can e-mail/text them the link to the registration page on our website >> Professional Luncheon Registration << along with a short introduction from yourself saying who you are.  You should be able to cut and paste that link.  Please be sure they know who it is coming from so they are expecting it.
  2. You can download the invitation pdf >> Luncheon Invitation <<  by clicking the download button on the page that comes up.  Then either attach it to an e-mail, or print it out and hand deliver it.
  3. You can send your contact information to Christie N. who will send our online invitation to them directly.

March Events

The month of March has become a busy one for us. Highlights include two C.A.L.M. classes at Archbishop O’Leary, two demonstration A.A. meetings to be held for the U of A for Psychiatric Nursing Students, and two consecutive presentations at Concordia University to Abnormal Psychology students.  The two demonstration A.A. presentations will require more volunteers than usual, aiming for 6 persons per group, and are a new adventure for us we are looking forward to.   We will tap the wisdom gathered from PI/CPC Calgary to structure this event, and hope to have many more like it in the future.  Their wisdom is posted in our forum ==>  Calgary Information Session for Medical Students

Also of note is the addition of several “how to” videos regarding various parts of navigation of this site, with the intention of smoothing the edges of understanding.  For myself, I find a video is worth more than a thousand words.  They can be found here >> Video Guides << are accessible from the “How to Book an Event” page, and I hope they prove helpful to you, amateurish or not.

Our committee is starting to get rolling now, so if you know of anyone wanting to get involved, a speaker sign-up page is also in the works – coming soon.  This post will be updated as speakers come forward, so this is where to check occasionally to see if events may yet need to be filled.

Since the turn of the year,

several individual information sessions were held to further inform our committee members in the use and versatility of this website.   As a result of this, feedback is beginning to come in.  Further information sessions are possible, for you, and any others interested, but a date is not set at this time.

From actual web-help that stepped forward from the speaker workshop in the form of long time member Kimberley P., to the several new members who have come to join our committee, 2018 is shaping up to be a year with the wind at our back.

I, personally, have not forgotten the trials and tribulations you, our speakers, have been through over the past few months as we dealt with domain name changes, prohibitive passwords, confusing layout, etc… These “features” were part of our growing pains, and are now a thing of the past.  Speakers now only need only log in at the top right to be able to volunteer, and streamlining layout and usability is forefront on my mind.

Now, among other things, I will try to re-focus attention on the thirty or so speakers that signed up at our workshop, in the midst of all this confusion, and work to bring you into the service you volunteered for.  If you see any of our committee members in your travels, please approach them with your questions, as they will now be better able to answer you, should you have any.

Note to site subscribers:

Booking events does NOT need to wait for the publishing of the monthly post.  With this new system, if you want to put your name in for an event, you can do so at anytime!  In the spirit of fairness, and to not stand in the way of anothers recovery, confirmation will not be given too soon (nor too late).  This is a policy that is evolving, but generally, at least two weeks notice will be given.

The old WordPress.com blog will be retired at the end of December along with the Google Calendar and other Google account dependencies.

If you haven’t already done so, please save your bookmarks to www.areacommittees.org now, as the re-direct from the old site www.aaservices.org will be removed at the end of December.  God willing, this will be the last disruptive change to our url, and our committee can begin to build on this solid footing.

My new e-mail address is pi.cpc.coordinator(at)areacommittees.org and cpcpi.edmaa(at)gmail.com will be phased out over time.  Comments, suggestions, and feedback are hard to come by, and welcomed at any time.

I look forward to the year ahead, with a static url, a simple username and password policy, public and private website areas, and a greater ability to carry our message to the still suffering alcoholic.

    Area Committees

This site began trials in late 2016 as a WordPress.com blog.   It became an interactive site meant to aid service committees in their communications and planning. Perhaps overly broad in scope, its design was intended to maintain a consistent point of contact between outreach committees, the committee members themselves (forum), and those they interacted with. Use of this site was ever mindful of the spirit of anonymity, using only first names and last initial.

The domain name was a known issue, only the booking concept was adopted locally, and the site was mothballed in mid-2019.
