Speakers – Booking an Event

Booking a speaking event is actually quite easy,

but you must be logged into the WordPress portion (not the forum) of this website to do so. All bookings are done from the event pages themselves, which are accessed either from the Calendar or the Event List page.

I have recently “produced” some videos which offer short explanations of many of these features.  They can all be found on the Video Guides page.  The text explanation continues below.

On a PC:

Go to the calendar and browse the events.  If there is an event you would like to volunteer for, simply click on the colored tab and the page for that event will come up.  Scroll to the bottom of that page and you will find PI, or CPC, or Shadow to choose from.  Click on the drop-down, select “1”, leave a note to me in the “Coment” window if you wish, and then simply click the “One Click to Volunteer” button ONCE and you have volunteered for that event.

From Handheld:

From the calendar, tap the tab of the event you are interested in.  A pop-up will display, then tap the calendar tab again, and the event page will come up.  At the bottom is a “bookings”  area, and under that is a “Volunteer to Speak” button.  As above, select the number “1” in the drop-down area of your choice, and click that button ONCE (lol) and you have volunteered at that event.

Now what?

Ok, after you hit the button, the system:

  • immediately confirms your booking request
  • sends you an e-mail
  • sends me a notice of request

Over booking of events is welcome, so that all speakers have opportunity regardless of when they put their name in.  Development as speakers is part of your individual recovery and growth, and this policy ensures all the right to participate, in keeping with our Traditions and Concepts of Service.

At the turn of the calendar month, administration goes over all bookings for the month ahead, and sends out confirmations in the fairest possible way. **   When a booking is confirmed, the system:

  • Sends you a confirmation e-mail
  • Tracks bookings/cancellations in the back-end
  • Your event shows up under “My Bookings” from the home page, complete with address, details, etc…

Please!!!  Do not put your name in to speak unless you are willing to commit to fulfilling the event when and if your booking is confirmed.  We realize life is a constantly changing thing, but speaking engagements are commitments to your fellows, and are meant to be held unless unforeseen circumstances prevent you from fulfilling them.  If life does throw you a curve-ball, please notify us as soon as you are aware, so we can work towards finding a replacement.

**This policy is constantly evolving as actual functionality makes itself known.  If a two week rotation becomes possible, short notice for events close to the turn of the month may be eliminated.   The more notice I can give, the better.  Fingers crossed. 🙂

    Area Committees

This site began trials in late 2016 as a WordPress.com blog.   It became an interactive site meant to aid service committees in their communications and planning. Perhaps overly broad in scope, its design was intended to maintain a consistent point of contact between outreach committees, the committee members themselves (forum), and those they interacted with. Use of this site was ever mindful of the spirit of anonymity, using only first names and last initial.

The domain name was a known issue, only the booking concept was adopted locally, and the site was mothballed in mid-2019.
