“Homeless Connect” is a bi-annual event (Spring and Fall) held at the Shaw Conference Center. This venue is for inner-city people, low income families, and those who are interested in using one or more of the many services offered, from health-care to employment opportunities. A.A. has been attending these events for the past 10+ years.
We set up a booth and literature rack (9:30 a.m.) and the doors are open to the public at 10:00 a.m. A suggested list of literature to take follows:
- P1: This is AA (20)
- P2: Frequently Asked Questions (20)
- P3: Is AA For You? (10)
- P4: Young People and AA (15)
- P5: AA For the Woman (20)
- P11: Medications and Other Drugs (12)
- P21: AA for the Native North American (20)
- P24: A Newcomer Asks (30)
- P30: Is There An Alcoholic in Your Life? (10)
- P31: AA in Your Community (20)
- P32: AA and the Gay/Lesbian Alcoholic (20)
- P35: Problems Other Than Alcohol (20)
- P36: Is AA For Me? (20)
- P42: A Brief Guide to AA (20)
- P47: Understanding Anonymity (20)
- F2: Information on AA (30)
- E4: Meeting Lists (50 – 75)
This event continues until 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon. It’s always a good idea to bring ‘treats’ to put in a bowl for attracting participants.
The person setting up will be responsible for getting the literature rack, banner, and pamphlets from Central Office, so be aware of the operating hours. We cannot access the room between noon and 1:00 p.m. because of the Noon meeting. Staffing the booth is done in two shifts:
Two people from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Only one individual needs to come at 9:30 a.m. for set-up.
Two people from 12:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
It is not uncommon to have other A.A. members join us at various times throughout the day to visit and help out. This is a great venue for meeting other organisations and giving them information about A.A.
